Saturday Synopsis
Getting back on top of things…
So many new faces this term, not least at our two new Diss choirs. It’s been fun getting to know you and, a few venue capacity issues aside, things have gone smoothly with the start of term. It has been a challenge learning so many new names and faces but I’m grateful for your patience while I coax the old grey matter into submission.
I’m now getting back to the more normal routine and the next song – the Christmas one – is almost complete. Of course, I’ve lost my resident soprano to Newcastle University so, after a very thorough warm up, I hope to get all the vocal parts recorded myself tomorrow. Apologies that the higher parts may be slightly less easy on the ear than usual.
Carols and the Christmas song will be the order of the day when we come back after half term but I’m confident I may actually get to play you our Christmas song before we take our short break at the end of October. We’ve been making rapid progress with My Life and I think another couple of weeks and we’ll have it finished.
The Rehearsal video for week one is already up, and week two should be with you very shortly. I anticipate doing the recap videos, where I teach each part separately, some time next week.
On the subject of Christmas, the Pop Club Choir Social Committee has been working hard organising the appropriate get togethers for each location. Christmas events have always been organised by members and I’m tremendously grateful for their efforts. And I know you are too.
As I write this, the current plan seems to be a joint Bury and Thetford party at Croxton Village Hall, an Ipswich party at our regular home, Ipswich Sports Club. Plans are still being made for Diss but I hope to have some news for you soon.
The Tour, The App and The Website
The Pop Club Choir Tour has taken a bit of a back seat for the past few weeks, as has the App, but I have been making a few tweaks to the website. You can now order printing directly from the popclubchoir.uk/resources page and you can browse the stuff in the popclubchoir.uk/shop as a list rather than having to search through the categories if you prefer.
You’ve been busy voting and suggesting songs for me to arrange at popclubchoir.uk/songs
I wrote about this in last week’s Saturday Synopsis so I won’t rehash that, but suffice it to say, your suggestions and your votes are really helpful.
There’s also a new link to all the whatsApp groups. Go to popclubchoir.uk/whatsapp and click on any groups that you’d like to be in.
Remember, you really should be in the Admin group for your location as that’s where I post urgent or important stuff. Feel free to join the Chat group too. You can mute notification whilst staying in the group if you find it a little noisy.
And, in response to your requests, I’m also building a list layout for the popclubchoir.uk/resources page so you can quickly search for the download you need. I’m just doing the final tests so that should be active sometime next week.
Full Scores
Finally, those of you who’ve been singing with Pop Club Choir for a while will know that sheet music is available for your part for those that want it. New for this term however are full scores, with all four parts included. They’ll be uploaded with the rest of the resources for new songs and I’m gradually working my way through our back catalogue. For now you’ll find full scores for everything in the current set list plus a handful of other tunes.
If you have any questions then do get in touch. You can email me at ed@popclubchoir.uk, or WhatsApp, call or text on 07973 110075.
