Bake and Craft Sale

Thank you to everyone who brought stuff along to sell last week and to everyone who made purchases, organised raffles, manned the stalls, or simply donated. You’ve been incredibly generous. Sarah will be counting the money on Monday and I should be able to let you know our total next week.

Website

No significant updates to the Members’ Area this week but I have (in response to an enquiry from a taster) added the term dates to the public section of the website. So if you need a quick check, without going through the faff of logging on, go to popclubchoir.uk and hit the Locations menu button.

Now that we’ve got our Christmas repertoire up and running, I’m hoping to carve out a bit of time to make some more improvements next week before moving on to next term’s repertoire.

You’ll have spotted the “pop up” asking you to keep your details up to date in the Your Account area below. I’ve no immediate plans to change any of our locations so you can file this under “Getting ahead of the game!”

Occasionally venues become unavailable (either temporarily, for example if they’re used as a polling station, or permanently). Finding a replacement at short notice can be a challenge. I’ve built a nifty little tool that will quickly plot your address on a map so that if I do need to make a change, I can do it in the knowledge of who’s coming from where.

So, at minimum, if you can make sure your postcode is up to date below, that’d ensure your location would be considered in the event of a change.

Never Forget… and the rest of term

We should have a better idea of how long it’ll take us to get Never Forget firmly under out belts by the end of next week. Current plan is to make this the final new song to learn this term. I’ve worked you very, very, what with the huge task that was Take On Me / Mr Brightside, and all the carols and Christmas songs. Gigs aside, I’m planning a more leisurely final three weeks of term.

Inevitably, we’ll spend a little bit of time on the harmonies for the carols, and I may do recap lessons for some if times allows. Also a quick reminder that the usual Downloads are available below and on the music player at popclubchoir.uk/music so do add those to your listening schedule.

As mentioned last week, the Song Suggestions section of the Members’ Area is a work in progress and I hope the new version will make it easier for you to vote on the songs you like and suggest others. As always, the songs I then choose for us to sing will be a mix of those you’ve indicated and those I think will be “useful” for some of our gigs.

The challenge of a group such as ours is that there will never be complete consensus. The howls of outrage about not knowing a song when I introduce something modern are matched by the sighs of disappointment when I bring you something more classic!
