A weekly, termtime roundup of Pop Club Choir goings-on and a peek at what’s coming next.

Saturday Synopsis

You Can't Stop The Beat

Hopefully you found this week's learning a bit easier!

I'll do another "speed recap" of the intro section next week and we'll hopefully finish the rest of the song off.

The Recap Video for this week is also up so do please check that out. My plan is to continue to record the Recap Videos on a Friday morning and then edit and upload them by the end of the day. The positives are that they'll be available nice and promptly and that everything I've learned about how best to teach it will still be fresh in my mind. The downside is of course that my voice might be a bit scratchy first thing on a Friday morning, after a week of singing!

Bungay Gigs

Thank you to everyone who has signed up for the Bungay gig on 4th May. We've got a choir of 40 at the moment. I'd absolutely love to go there with 50 of you so if you can make it, please do sign up. Scroll down to the Calendar below and click "coming".

It promises to be a really great day. We'll sing two shorter sets so we can explore the event in between. There are lots of stalls as well the Classic Cars and dogs are welcome. We might even have the inaugural meeting of the Pop Club Choir Border Collie Owners Association.

More information in the Calendar in the members area or at lionsclubs.co/bungayarealions/

There are three other Bungay gigs booked so far and I'm really hoping these will allow us to attract plenty of new members. As you know, Bungay is the newest (and final) Pop Club Choir location and I really need your help to make this choir as strong as Bury, Ipswich and Thetford. Please do sign up for as many of these as you are able!

  • Sunday 17th August 1.30pm Beccles Carnival 2025

Social Media

I also wanted to say a big, big thank you to all of you who have kindly shared, liked or commented on my Social Media posts. It is unbelievably helpful and feeding the Facebook algorithm in this way is so important these days.

I'm particularly grateful to everyone who has created their own posts about Pop Club Choir. It's one thing for me to witter on about how much fun it is and so on, but it's so much more powerful coming from you. Thank you!

On a similar note, if any of you have any contacts at local papers (whether free-ads type publications or more traditional newspapers) please do let me know.

Equally, thank you for bringing your friends/family/people-you-bump-into-in-the-street along too. This word-of-mouth type thing is still by far and away the best way to get people along.

Plans for the future...

Finally, one or two of you have been asking what my plans for the future are, now that I'm gently retiring from my "day job" of singing in a band. Many choirs such as ours are expanding rapidly, starting choirs in new locations and taking on other choir-leaders. I wish them well with this.

However, that kind of things does not interest me. I have no desire to return to having to manage people, with the inevitable worries about the quality suffering, nor get to the point where I'm not able to get to know you all, and vice versa of course.

Once a month on a Friday I run a comedy club (as some of you know) and Saturdays and Sundays we often have Pop Club Choir gigs. So Monday to Thursday is pretty well the limit of what I want to do and am able to do. I'm really keen to make sure I have enough time to make Pop Club Choir as good as possible, whether that's the arrangements, the resources, the gigs, the website, the socials events or whatever. As I know you know, these things are tremendously times consuming but I think they're an important element of our wonderful community.

I want to keep the price as low as possible too so that it's not a financial disaster if you miss a rehearsal (and of course you can catch up online with the Recap Videos). I know that you won't all be able to come every week so I'd like all four of our choirs to be strong enough that there's still "safety in numbers" even if a reasonable proportions of the members miss a rehearsal.

As always, please share your thoughts and feedback. You can email me at ed@popclubchoir.uk, or WhatsApp, call or text on 07973 110075. Or hit me up on Facebook!
