Saturday Synopsis
Welcome back
What a fabulous week! I loved being back singing with you all and you were in fabulous voice.
A particular thank you to Thetford Town Cricket Club for making us so welcome. You've already made some excellent suggestions for things we might tweak so I'm optimistic things will work out well here. As always, feel free to share your thoughts. The Thetford WhatsApp Chat seems to be a good spot to do that.
I’m planning on structuring rehearsals slightly differently this term. Firstly, as well as learning our new song, I’ll keep a recap song on the go. No more than about ten minutes or so, I promise. Do let me know how you’re finding this new format. I’ll also do a short questionnaire towards the end of term to get some more formal feedback.
I’m also reintroducing the Hot Hopeful this term. We’ll have a weekly sing through of something not in the repertoire. No teaching, no repetition, no pressure. New songs uploaded weekly and available at popclubchoir.uk/resources in the folder marked Hot Hopefuls plus sent to WhatsApp Admin Group for your location on the day before the rehearsal.
If you’re not in the WhatsApp Admin Group, please, please do join by clicking the links below.
Only I can post in these groups so you’ll just get very occasional ‘pings’ on your phone. This is where I post anything important or urgent, such as any last minute cancellations or changes.
As always, you can find more information about rehearsals at popclubchoir.uk/calendar
1. Click Rehearsals 2. Click your Choir Location (Bury, Bungay, Ipswich or Thetford). 3. Click the Rehearsal itself and it’ll open up to show a bit more information about what going on.
Finally, a quick note about the Set Lists for this term.
Unless there are any good reasons to change, the plan is to keep the Set Lists the same for the whole term. I’m hoping this will make things easier for you to get prepared for the gigs. I know a lot of you set up a list of Favourites on the http://popclubchoir.uk/player and listen to it while you’re going about your day. With luck, you'll be able to set this up once and be done.
In September, we’ll add in the songs we’re learning this term, plus of course, towards the end of the year, dust off the Christmas stuff. Too early to mention that?
Songs… and voting
The new voting system for deciding which songs we’re going to sing through at rehearsals seems to be going well and lots of you are using it. I wondered if there’d be any confusion between this and the popclubchoir.uk/songs section where you can mark your preferences for songs you’d like me to add to the repertoire. However, you seem to have worked it out.
To vote on which songs you’d like to sing through at rehearsals, just click on up to three songs in the little window that pops up a few days before each rehearsal when you visit the website. Once you’ve voted you won’t see it again until the next rehearsal comes around.
popclubchoir.uk/songs however is where you can suggest new songs you’d like us to learn, and mark already suggested song with a thumbs up or thumbs down. I get a little summary this end and I use it to help me decide which songs to arrange for you all.
You might also have spotted the new buttons at the top of this section:
Top voted does what it says on the tin and shows the most-liked songs, Trending shows recently added or recently voted-on songs and All songs… well, you get the idea.
I’m currently sketching out songs for next term so now is good time to vote for your favourites. I’ve not decided whether to get them finished before the end of this term (so I can give you a little taster of what we’ll be covering from September) or whether to save them until we come back after the summer break.
If you have any questions then do get in touch. You can email me at ed@popclubchoir.uk, or WhatsApp, call or text on 07973 110075.
