Saturday Synopsis
Dreams
I’m thoroughly enjoying what you’re doing with Dreams. Lots of complicated timings and complex harmony in this one and you’ve truly risen to the challenge. The next song, though not all of you will know it, is pretty straightforward. I may even announce it before I play you our arrangement so you can take a listen to the original version (which I’ve followed reasonably closely for once).
The recap videos for the entire first verse are at https://popclubchoir.uk/player as usual and I should have the Week 2 Rehearsal Video up by the end of the weekend. It seems that the rehearsal videos are proving useful so I’ll keep them coming!
Next week we’ll tackle the chorus – just the tune for upper altos and basses, and the harmonies from the original Fleetwood Mac recording for sopranos and lowers. That just leaves the second verse, which is pretty well identical to the first, and the outro to cover.
Quiz
Thank you to those that have signed up for the Quiz on 18th April. It was such a fun event last year so I’m thoroughly looking forward to seeing what nonsense our resident Quiz-Master comes up with this year.
We’re suggesting teams of up to six people, but if you don’t have a ready built team, do come along anyway and we’ll organise you into teams.
The bar will be open and you can bring nibbles for your team table. Doors open at 7pm and the Quiz will kick off at 7.30. As before, it’ll be at the New Green Centre, New Green Avenue, Thurston, Bury St. Edmunds, Suffolk IP31 3TG.
All welcome so feel free to bring other-halves, friends, family...
Tickets are £6 per person and you can grab those at popclubchoir.uk/shop
Glass Painting Workshop
Sadly we’ve had to cancel the Glass Painting Workshop. It seems the change of date that was forced upon us didn’t suit too many of you.
The Christmas Wreath Making proved very popular so let me know if this kind of “off-singing” social event is of interest to you.
My plan
I’ll be spending the next couple of weeks finishing off the arrangements for next term. I’ve got lots of fabulous stuff for you, ranging from tricky to easy-peasy. And for the most part, I’ve been guided by your voting at https://popclubchoir.uk/songs
We’ve got something from 2000s, 90s, 80s and even a 70s classic.
After that’s done, I’ll be (re)turning my attention to the website and tackling the list of bugs and feature suggestions that you’ve found. Thank you to everyone who’s found wrinkles big or small. I’m hoping that, with the new design, I’ll be able to roll out updates as things are fixed or implemented. This should avoid the problems we had with the previous “build” whereby old versions of the site were getting stuck on your devices.
Facebook Songs Poll
Many of you have seen that, instead of the scramble for “requests” at rehearsals, I’ve been doing a Facebook Poll on our Facebook Group each week. Here you can make suggestions for songs you’d like to sing through, and vote on those others have suggested.
If this proves useful I’ll build the feature into a dedicated spot on the website so that those of you who don’t “do” Facebook can get involved.
If you have any questions then do get in touch. You can email me at ed@popclubchoir.uk, or WhatsApp, call or text on 07973 110075.
