A weekly, termtime roundup of Pop Club Choir goings-on and a peek at what’s coming next.

Saturday Synopsis

Saturday Synopsis

Songs, songs, songs

The new pop up on the website asking you to vote for which songs you’d like to sing at rehearsals seems to be working well. See last week’s Saturday Synopsis for a more detailed explanation if you’re unsure of the difference between that and the popclubchoir.uk/songs page.

Lots of you are using it and I’m hoping democracy will mean that the sing-out section at the end of the evening feels nice and varied. At present there’s no “Don’t ask me about this again” button, but if you find it irritating to be interrogated in this fashion every week, and if you’re sure you’re never going to get involved in the voting for rehearsal songs, then let me know. If enough of you want that feature, I’ll build something suitable.

The return of the Hot Hopefuls is proving popular. Thanks to everyone who’s sent song ideas. Very helpful.

The Tide Is High was a definite hit, and despite my slight reservations, I'm giving Dancing Queen a cautious thumbs up too. I should have next weeks Hot Hopeful in the popclubchoir.uk/calendar soon. As always, I'll upload the lyrics to the Hot Hopefuls folder in the popclubchoir.uk/resources page and send it to the WhatsApp Admin Group for each location the day before your rehearsal.

If you missed rehearsal this week, I spoke briefly about it being quite hard to find songs that you’ll know well enough to sing through without any teaching from me, but which are not so cheesy that we’re all bored stiff of them. No doubt there’ll be hits and misses across the term. I shall not make the mistake of trying to please everyone all the time, but do let me know if you have any suggestions for songs you think might fit the bill.

It’s also around this time of year that I start thinking about what songs we might do when we come back after the summer break. As always, your suggestions and votes at popclubchoir.uk/songs are really helpful. There’s still time to influence the choices for next term so do jump on and have your say.

The Christmas Song causes me the most problems. Almost everything has been done so much so it’s hard to find a tune we can give the usual Pop Club Choir treatment and not be too fed up with after the mass of Christmas gigs that we normally end up doing.

Gigs

As always, you can find details of all our events at popclubchoir.uk/calendar including all our gigs.

I’m pleased to confirm that we’ve been invited back to the Beccles Carnival again on Saturday 15th August making it a double-gig weekend, with the Thetford Open Gardens event on Sunday 16th August.

Our next performance is Sunday 10th May at Sproughton Beer Festival. It’s always a fun one. Nearly 60 of you are signed up so we should make a good noise. If I’m feeling energetic enough I’ll bring some staging down so those at the back can be more easily seen. If any of you strong fellows are able to lend a hand with the the lift in and out of the truck that’d be amazing. The work of a moment for a few people – a back-breaking nightmare for one!

Thetford

I’m pleased to say that we’ve settled in at our new Thetford home. Thank you to Kim and everyone at Thetford Town Cricket Club for making us feel so welcome and for being so helpful and accommodating.

There are a few tweaks to make but your feedback has been overwhelmingly positive and your suggestions extremely useful. Our support of the Cricket Club will also help them improve their facilities and I know they have lots of grand plans for the site.

It’s also been great to see choir members from our other locations popping in to have a sing at Thetford. We’ve loved having you join us and don’t forget, you’re always welcome at any rehearsals at any locations.

Social Events

Feedback from our Quiz Night has been terrific. Our next event will be the Summer Picnic, hosted as always by our Thetford group. It’s always such a fun event so I hope some of you will come along from our other locations as usual.

I’m still considering options for the Christmas Term event. We might do something different from the Halloween Party this year so once I’ve convened the social committee, I’ll start some planning.

It’d be great to have something where we can get as many along as possible for really big Pop Club Choir Sing. I love giving you lots of performance opportunities, but the downsides is that it’s harder to get everyone together for a single event when there are so many dates to choose from.
