A weekly, termtime roundup of Pop Club Choir goings-on and a peek at what’s coming next.

Saturday Synopsis

Half Term

No choir rehearsals next week as we'll be on our official half term. I'm keeping our term dates under review, whilst trying to work out when you folks like to take your holidays (a suspicious amount of you seem to go away in January – where are you all going, and can we come?).

I'm also trying spread things out so that we don't have too many long gaps. The long summer holidays present a challenge because most people, myself included, will be going away at some point in July and August. But again, I've spotted that quite a lot of you sneak off for a bit of late summer sun in September.

I think the solution will be to do some workshops across the summer holidays. Perhaps not the massive three hour ones we did in 2024, but something a little more manageable! As always, if you've got any thoughts, feel free to share.

As for the week to come, I'll be using the time productively with some recording, no doubt a bit of a tweak of the Members' Area and of course, some more video lessons for our back catalogue.

New Gig on Sunday 2nd March

I was getting ready for our first gig of 2025 to be at Thetford on Tuesday 18th March.

However, we've just been booked to sing at Kentford Manor in Newmarket on Sunday 2nd March. Set List and all details are in the Calendar below, where you can also sign up to come along.

Kentford Manor is a really lovely care home and residents and staff alike are excited about our coming to perform. I know that sometimes care homes don't feel especially rock and roll but I have to say, they're amongst my favourite places to perform.

Do sign up for this one. It's going to be a lovely afternoon and I'm sure Kentford Manor will make us feel most welcome.

You've Got A Friend

I'm delighted to report that all choirs have now finished You've Got A Friend and, as soon as I've finished writing this blog, I'll be heading into the studio to record the final video lesson for this song.

Expect to see that by the end of the weekend.

Videos

You've been very generous with your comments about the video lessons so, whilst mindful of the "rod-for-my-own-back" element of this task, I'm going to continue with them.

You'll see I've built new section of the Members' Area so you can now play them directly from the website without having to download them. As such, you won't now find the videos in the Downloads area.

I'll be attempting more songs, starting with ones that I think might be most useful for you. As always, if you have a song you've never quite got to grips with then give me a shout.

Badges

Our Bury St Edmunds and Thetford locations are now sporting some dinky new badges, made for us by the lovely Sandra. She's very kindly offered to make badges for anyone else who'd like one.

You can either just send me a message requesting a badge, or you can comment on the Facebook post by going to www.facebook.com/groups/popclubchoir/posts/1409270603276468. Simply add a message to say you'd like one and Sandra will make it happen.

The cost is 50p which I can collect in cash and goes straight to Sandra to cover the cost of the materials.

Photos and WhatsApp

I'll finish with my usual reminder about joining the WhatsApp groups (at minimum the one-way group where only I can post). Links are in the Useful Information section at the top of the Messages From Ed.

Equally, do upload a photo if you've not already done, or just email one to me and I'll upload it for you. Alternatively, grab me at a rehearsal and I'll take a quick snap with my phone.

As always, do share your thoughts and feedback. You can email me at ed@popclubchoir.uk, or whatsapp, call or text on 07973 110075. Or hit me up on Facebook!
