Saturday Synopsis
Next Week…
Week 3 now complete! I hope my efforts to vary the teaching a little worked for you. The plan for the next few weeks is to continue taking our time with the new tunes thereby having a bit more variety.
I’ll be reusing Burning Love as our warm up and we’ll refresh what we learned last week as well as putting some harmonies together for the outro section. Get your, "Hunk, a hunk of burning love," ready! The following week, I’ll give you something nice and easy for the verses.
You can listen to the original version at https://music.youtube.com/watch?v=5eYjNtK7Ir0&si=6md-2oZJpf55bzbp and I should have a full set of resources up up soon.
Finally, we’ll be taking Proud Mary out and giving her a little love and attention. It feels like a moment, as the young folks say! Do take a listen to your part ahead of next week if you get a moment.
Rehearsal Videos
You might have spotted some audio-visual experimentation at last week’s rehearsals, the fruits of which are now on the site at popclubchoir.uk/resources and popclubchoir.uk/player as Rehearsal Videos for Burning Love and One Last Time.
These will be an addition to the regular Recap Videos which will follow after the teaching has finished as usual.
I’d welcome your thoughts as to whether you find them useful.
Cake Sale - week starting 9th February
Hopefully I remembered to mention our Bake and Cake Sale on Week 5 of this term (9th, 10th, 11th and 12th February). As always with our charity stuff, there’s no obligation to get involved and I’m very aware that lots of you do an incredible amount for charity outside of Pop Club Choir.
But if you would like to bake or buy a cake and/or come armed to buy a cake (or even just a slice) then that’d be great. Incidentally, I think it's a wider than just "cake" – I've definitely enjoyed some cheese-based snacks at previous events!
We’ll be raising money for the Darby Rimmer Motor Neurone Disease Foundation by supporting Bury St Edmunds Lower Alto Julie who will be taking part in a 350 mile relay walk later this year.
Do arrive a bit nearer to 7pm so you can hoist some cake on board. Singing will be starting at 7.30pm on the dot as usual.
As mentioned previously, I’m going to limit Cake Sales to one per term so do get in touch if you have a charity you’d like to raise funds for and we’ll get a list going!
Charity
One or two of you have asked me about having a Charity Of The Year, voted for by you! It’s a most excellent idea but one I’ve thus far resisted. We support quite a few charities at gigs and this has also given us some great performance opportunities such as the recent Portman Road gig.
My concern is that tying ourselves into a single charity might give me a little less wiggle room in this area.
I’ll keep it under review and as always, I welcome your feedback.
Badges, Photos and the WhatsApp Admin Groups
Finally, a reminder to wear your badges at rehearsal if possible. It’s particular helpful for new people but even old hands might find themselves sat next to someone who they know pretty well but whose name they don’t know.
If you don't have a badge, you can order one at popclubchoir.uk/shop
I’d love it if you could also upload a photo at popclubchoir.uk/account as occasionally even I have a senior moment when faced with one or two names. I can't begin to tell you how useful it is to have a little snapshot of you when my memory lets me down.
And of course, the usual reminder to make sure you’re on the WhatsApp Admin Group for any rehearsals you attend. This is where I communicate all important or urgent stuff such as last minute changes or cancellations.
