Gigs And Set Lists

Two great gigs last weekend. Thanks to everyone who came along, particularly those who did both days! Fabulous work!

Saturday we were at Brandon Pride which, despite a rather perilous conducting position, and the event’s sound engineer’s efforts to deafen us for the first few songs, went surprisingly well. Lots of positive feedback from the organisers and audience members.

Sunday we were back on terra firma, in the grounds of the magnificent Bury St Edmunds Guildhall. After a spirited attempt to work my way through the refreshments, I climbed up on my new platform (if anyone does need any light decorating done then I've got all the tools now – LOL) and we did our thing for a surprisingly appreciative audience.

Again, a lovely thank you email from the organisers was waiting in my inbox on Monday morning.

We’ll continue with the same set list for this Sunday’s gig at Trinity Park (aka The Suffolk Show Ground), Ipswich for Race For Life, and then we’ll add Days and I Will Wait / What Is Love for the Beccles Carnival gig in August.

I'm sure you'll probably want to run Sunshine On Leith a few more times in rehearsal but we'll be getting it in the set very soon after we come back in the autumn.

I’ve had several enquiries about gigs over the summer so I’d welcome your thoughts on whether you’d like me to accept them or not. I’m sure lots of you will be off on your holidays and I don't want to be standing there on my own!

As I’ve mentioned previously, I’ve been wondering if I’m offering too many gig. It has felt like a bit of a struggle getting enough people along recently.

Sunshine On Leith

All the Downloads for this are now on the site for this song. I hope you’re starting to love it as much as I do. If you missed this week’s rehearsal, you can catch up by watching this week’s Rehearsal Video on the Player.

A couple of tricky rhythms aside, there’s not too much left to do so we should get it close to completion next week, and then we’ll tidy a couple of the tricky corners for the final week of term.

I'm planning on getting a recap video done before the end of term but I've got a few hatband gigs coming up over the next ten days or so so we'll have to see how things pan out. Despite my best efforts to retire from "my day job" I've still got a few contractual obligations to honour. I don't mind admitting that I'm excited to be bringing that chapter of my life to a close!

End Of Term

Just two more weeks of rehearsals to go! Where has the term gone?

We’ll have a slightly less formal final session of term as usual. Feel free to bring nibbles along and so on and we’ll make a bit of a do of it. After that, we’re off for July and August, though we’ve of course got our Summer Picnic at the end of July and gigs in August.
