Saturday Synopsis
You've Got A Friend
I've absolutely loved getting cracking on our new arrangement. And I'm even more excited about the week to come! I never quite know how it's going to sound until I hear it sung live, by you lovely people so it's such a pleasure hearing it brought to life..
This week we'll be tackling the chorus and the second verse. As per normal, all the choruses are the same and the second verse follows the same melodies at the first (with a small flourish for the lower altos ). So once we've learned that, we've just got the bridge (a.k.a. the middle bit) and the outro (complex but not difficult), to tackle.
Very much hoping we'll have it licked by the end of this half of term.
Also, a reminder that you can always check which song we'll be doing at the next rehearsal by going to the Calendar section, and clicking on your choir. I'll list anything we'll be working on in the Set List section.
Downloads
Hopefully you're enjoying the new style lyric sheets. The line numbers are certainly helping me communicate where I am (although I did find myself saying, "Let's go from the middle of line four," several times last week.
I've also been experimenting with smaller and larger font sizes. The current download for You've Got A Friend runs to a couple of pages, but there is a four page version with larger type. Let me know if this would be useful and I'll put it in the Downloads for you.
There's a new audio track for you too. So, you'll now find four different versions for many songs:
- All voices (all the voices mixed equally, to familiarise yourself with the structure)
- Loud (your part loud and panned to the right - use this if you listen on headphones)
- New, Very Loud version (just your part plus the track - use this if you're listening in the car or on speakers)
- Quiet (all the voices apart from yours - use this to practise, once you've learned it)
If the new, very loud version proves useful, I'll roll it out for all the previous songs.
I'm also working on some new learning resources which will be coming your way soon. Watch this space, as they say.
End Of Term Social
I'll soon be releasing details of our end of term social. We'll be trying something a bit different this term so again, watch this space for more details.
It'll involve plenty of singing, so if you've any free time over the next few weeks, do spend a bit of time with the Downloads to familiarise yourself with you parts.
Finally, just a reminder to make sure you've uploaded a photo to the site (or just email one to me and I'll upload it for you), and to join the one-way WhatsApp group for any choirs you attend.
In moments of urgency, I'll send a message in this group. And don't worry, no one else can post messages in the one-way group so your phone won't constantly be pinging.
Do get in touch if you have any questions or comments. You can email me at ed@popclubchoir.uk, or whatsapp, call or text on 07973 110075. Or hit me up on Facebook!
